Had a blast yesterday catching up with the original gang for a featurette extra on the upcoming Blu-ray edition of ‘Puberty Blues’. Hadn’t seen Geoff Rhoe for decades and didn’t even recognise him at first due to some new front teeth. He said he lost them when a bull ran at him and the new ones make him look strangely different. He’s now living in Winton, where the famous shearer’s strike took place and where they found amazing fossils of dinosaurs from the pre-historic inland sea. It’s also where they source some of the country’s most gorgeous boulder opals – a real gem of a place by the sounds of it and Geoff seems right at home there.
Tony Hughes also joined us for some flashbacks as did Jay Hackett. Hopefully we all managed to remember some interesting factoids for fans of the original movie and that it will sell well – not that we’ll ever see any of the profits. Never have. But it’s nice to be part of Australian cinema history. It’s a bond that will unite us for life.
