Caught a great artists talk the other day at Ros Oxley’s Gallery where Del Kathryn Barton is showing her latest exhibition ‘Satellite Fade-Out’. The talk was between Del (left) and her fellow artist friend Nell (right) and it brought up all sorts of titillating ideas about the orgasmic body, a subject that Del explores in her large scale female figures. Using a tool called a ‘satellite’ Del creates a universe of dots for her fine feathered femmes to float in. The ‘fade out’ refers to the way the dots disappear into the black void.
Nell shows at Oxley’s too and has one of her pieces in the collection at MONA – a chrome cast turd entitled ‘I Make Shit’. She has also just had her works transposed onto fabric for a collection of desirable frocks created by the wonderful label ‘Romance Was Born’ who recently made a splash with their design of the STC production of ‘Edward Gantz’s Amazing Feats of Lonliness’. So much talent! So much fun! Can’t wait to try one on for size.
